A man was taken to the hospital and seven people were displaced in a South Side fire that broke out early this morning in a two-story building in the South Shore neighborhood.

Firefighters responded shortly before 5 a.m. to the building, which is in the 2700 block of East 75th Place.

First responders transported a man to Jackson Park Hospital after he experienced difficulty breathing due to the fire, Chicago Fire Department spokeswoman Meg Ahlheim said.

No other injuries were reported.

Flames spread to a neighboring building, and firefighters worked for about an hour and a half before striking out the blaze at 6:38 a.m., according to the fire department.
